Overview

The Hanover Federation of Seventh-day Adventist Youths (HYF) operates as an auxiliary arm of the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists’ Youth Ministries department catering to thirty-three (33) congregations in seven (7) pastoral districts: Axe & Adze, Chambers Pen, Dias, Hopewell, Lucea, March Town, and Sandy Bay.

The federation was established in 1970 under the directorship of Pastor Cleveland Holness who served WJC as youth director.  The HYF boasts many firsts in youth ministries; the first parish to organize as a body (Hanover Federation of Mission Volunteers), the first to hold an evangelistic youth crusade out of which the Mt. Pleasant church was born, first to execute a weekend camp (the then Green Island Secondary School, now Green Island High School).

The HYF is forever indebted to the sterling leadership of the following presidents over the years: Ansel Brown, Noel Troupe, Alwin Brown, Fitzgerald Mahabee, Oswald Fletcher, Corbet Samuels, Lloyd Heaven, Merletta Donaldson, Alvia Brown (now Wright), Tennesha Grant (now Hewitt), Donovan McLaren, Gordon Munroe, Keita Mendes, Greogory Hewitt, and now serving Katia Davis.

Over the years the federation has grown serving the energetic youths of the parish.  The ministry has seen involvement in evangelistic and outreach activities, camping and outdoor events, training of adventurers, pathfinders, and master guides as well as sports and social activities.
